Watford to sign Jimiel Chikukwa after Leeds United exit
Jimiel Chikukwa is set to sign for Watford after being released by Leeds United, according to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.
Chikukwa, 18, was released by Leeds in the summer with Football Insider reporting that the teenage striker was deemed as surplus to requirements at Elland Road.
The UK-born youngster, who has Zimbabwean parents is now reportedly set to join Premier League Watford.
Good luck to him
We never got to see Chikukwa play for the Under-23s, let alone the first-team, but the young forward did impress for our Under-18s.
Last season, he scored five goals in 14 Under-18s Premier League appearances for Leeds while in 2018/19, he managed to score over 40 times for the Whites’ Under-16s.
Unfortunately, Chikukwa has suffered with injuries since that goal-fest of a season and was hoping to feature for the Under-23s prior to last term.
However, that didn’t happen and those injury issues, coupled with his failure to break into the Under-23s, may have led to the 18-year-old moving on from Leeds in the summer.
Watford, who are currently 11th in the Premier League, are now going to be a fresh start for Chikukwa and we wish him the best in his time at Vicarage Road.
It didn’t quite work out for him here in West Yorkshire but maybe it will down south.
Leeds have a lot of great young talent coming through, including Joe Gelhardt, who made his senior debut for the Whites on Tuesday night in the win at Fulham.
It’s likely that Gelhardt’s amazing Under-23s form was also a nail in Chikukwa’s Leeds coffin.
In other Leeds United news, a Spanish TV station has made a major claim about Marcelo Bielsa potentially leaving.
