Barcelona shortlist Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa to replace Ronald Koeman
Barcelona have a shortlist of managers to replace Ronald Koeman and Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is on it, according to Cuatro.
The Spanish TV channel has reported via their website that it is only a matter of time before Koeman leaves the Nou Camp with Barca suffering a poor start to the season.
Barca president Joan Laporta is said to be working “silently” on a list of possible replacements for Koeman and Bielsa, Xavi, Roberto Martinez, Thierry Henry and Antonio Conte are among the names.
Cuatro suggests that while Bielsa looks settled at Elland Road, that could change “if the offer is good”.
Bielsa is a man who’s very particular about what he wants and it’s unlikely that Barca would be able to offer him that.
While they are one of the biggest clubs on the planet, they are not the club they once were and are definitely in a tailspin at the moment.
Lionel Messi’s exit has left them in a lurch while their financial issues should make them a no-fly zone for any manager who’s worth their salt.
Bielsa demands a lot from his players – but he also demands a lot from his paymasters and Leeds have bowed to a lot of those demands in his time at Elland Road.
Would Barcelona do that? They probably won’t and Bielsa just doesn’t come across as the kind of manager who would thrive at a club like that.
He’s fine at Leeds and we really don’t see him as someone to walk away from the Whites during the season.
Yes, he’s quit clubs at the drop of a hat in the past but he seems like a changed man at Leeds – he seems like he’s found his footballing home.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay dubbed Bielsa a “maniac” after what he saw him doing at Fulham on Tuesday.
