Victor Orta speaks out about Leeds United-Okay Yokuslu speculation

Victor Orta admits he was impressed by Okay Yokuslu’s form on loan West Brom last season but claims Leeds United will find it tough to sign the midfielder from Celta Vigo.

Yokuslu, 27, has been linked with a move to Elland Road since the end of last season following West Brom’s relegation to the Championship.

Talha Arslan, a Turkish journalist, reported in June that Orta’s scouts had watched over Yokuslu as he played for Turkey at the European Championships.

And while Leeds’ director of football likes the defensive midfielder, he’s told Radio Galega it’s a deal that is unlikely to happen.

“It is politically difficult for Leeds to sign Okay Yokuslu. For me he had about six very good months, in a very difficult place. I personally liked it,” said Orta, as translated by LeedsLive reporter Joe Donnohue.

Onto the next one

Yokuslu would be a good signing for us.

Kalvin Phillips is obviously the undisputed holding midfielder in the Leeds squad but when he’s injured or suspended, we have struggled.

Yokuslu can play in a central or defensive midfield role and while he might not be as good on the ball as Phillips, he’s an absolute colossus off it.

Not many players would have enjoyed playing against him when he was at West Brom last season – even ex-Aston Villa player Lee Hendrie called him “brilliant” for the Baggies.

He could be someone to help shore up the midfield and see matches out for Leeds but it does not sound as though we’ll come anywhere near close to signing the Celta Vigo man this summer.

The Turkey international does have his downfalls too.

At the Baggies, he struggled with fitness and in the European Championships with Turkey, he failed to finish any of their three matches and was even dropped for their final group stage match.

We can do better and we cannot wait to see who Orta has lined up for us instead.

It’s good to see some transparency from the transfer chief.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “popular” Premier League goalkeeper.
