Victor Orta sends Leeds United scouts to watch Turkey stars Okay Yokuslu and Ozan Tufan

Leeds United scouts will be in attendance tonight to watch Turkey midfielders Okay Yokuslu and Ozan Tufan, according to Talha Arslan.

The Twitter-verified Turkish journalist, who has worked for reputable publications like Haber365, made the claim on his personal Twitter profile.

He said: “Victor Orta’s team for the European Championship will be at the Turkey-Switzerland match today to watch Ozan Tufan and Okay Yokuslu.”

Mixed feelings

Yokuslu is contracted to Spanish side Celta Vigo but he starred in the Premier League on loan at West Brom last season, impressing as a combative midfielder despite the West Midlands side’s relegation.

Like Fenerbahce star Tufan, the duo have both started Turkey’s first two games of their Euro 2020 campaign against Italy and Wales, though they were also substituted in both games.

Yokuslu impressed in the early part of the Italy match and they struggled after his withdrawal early in the second half, losing 3-0.

Tufan, meanwhile, has endured a rather torrid time of it so far, struggling under the weight of expectation.

Turkey face Switzerland today (Sunday, June 20) knowing only a win will suffice to keep their faint hopes alive of progression into the knock-out rounds.

It looks like there could be double pressure for Yokuslu and Tufan with Leeds scouts in attendance to analyse their performances.

It’s a position the Whites need to strengthen in this summer, with Kalvin Phillips in need of a back-up next season, and further reinforcements required in front of him to do the leg work required under Marcelo Bielsa.
