Victor Orta in talks for Leeds United to sign new centre-mid

Leeds United have turned their attention towards signing a new central midfielder after completing the deal for Junior Firpo, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.

Writing on the YEP website, Smyth reports that Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta is in talks with the unnamed midfielder, who is understood to be the club’s “top target” in that position.

Orta is reportedly trying to sell the Leeds dream to the player after a move for him was sanctioned by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Don’t hold your breath

Leeds kept their cards close to their chest regarding Firpo with Smyth reporting a couple of times beforehand that the Whites were in talks over a deal for an unnamed left-back.

It seems as though the position of players are leaked out at an early stage with their identity being revealed later on.

As it stands, Smyth reports that talks to sign this midfielder are not advanced and another first-team addition is not yet imminent – so we don’t suggest anyone holds their breath.

Leeds have needed a new central midfielder or two since they won promotion to the Premier League last year.

Michael Cuisance came close to arriving from Bayern Munich before the Frenchman failed a medical and Leeds opted to pursue winger Raphinha instead.

Signing this central midfielder is overdue and we’d like to see it be someone who can slot straight into Bielsa’s starting line-up and show himself to be an improvement on the likes of Mateusz Klich or Tyler Roberts.

We may have to wait at least a week or two before their identity is revealed and there is bound to be plenty of speculation in that time.

In other Leeds United news, this 29-year-old could re-sign for Leeds this summer after his contract ended.
