Leeds United offer for Ezgjan Alioski remains on table despite confirmation he's left
Ezgjan Alioski could remarkably still sign a new contract for Leeds United despite an announcement he’s left, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson.
Writing on The Mirror website, Anderson reports that Alioski, 29, is yet to receive an acceptable offer from another club after talks with Trabzonspor, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
In a stunning twist, Anderson, who is one of the most reliable journalists for Leeds news, claims “an offer of new terms at Leeds remains on the table” for the North Macedonia international.
On Monday, Leeds posted a story on their official website that essentially said farewell to Alioski.
The left-back’s contract expires at the end of last month and the statement reads that his “four-year spell with Leeds United has come to an end”.
Leeds also said they have been “unable to reach an agreement” and Victor Orta paid tribute to one of his first signings at Elland Road.
However, Anderson is now claiming that the door remains open for Alioski to sign a new contract at Elland Road.
We would have thought that after that announcement earlier this week that all bridges had been burnt and that Leeds had taken a contract offer off the table.
That doesn’t seem to be the case though – Alioski could still be a White next season.
If you think about it, there’s nothing stopping us from re-signing him.
Of course, he is a free agent but is there a free agent out there who’s as accustomed to Marcelo Bielsa’s system than Alioski? If you ignore Pablo Hernandez, there’s not.
Alioski would be a great back-up option for new left-back signing Junior Firpo while he can also offer his services on the wings due to his great versatility.
We’d take Gjanni back, definitely.
In other Leeds United news, another new signing could be sealed in the next 24 hours.
