Valencia manager blocks Helder Costa move from Leeds United

Helder Costa’s Leeds United exit has hit a stumbling block after Valencia manager Jose Bordalas blocked his signing, according to Hector Gomez.

The Spanish journalist, who writes for Valencia-based news outlet Tribuna Deportiva, suggests the 27-year-old winger is now unlikely to make a move to the La Liga club.

Sky Sports, writing on their live transfer blog this afternoon [12:10 pm], reported that Valencia had made an enquiry over the Angola-born attacker.

However, writing via his personal Twitter profile [13:36pm], Gomez says “Bordalas has stopped the operation” of agent Jorge Mendes, despite Leeds agreeing to let him leave and Costa wanting to sign.

Set to stay?

Mendes is one of the most well-known agents around, and is generally dubbed a “super-agent” given his wealth of top-class clients and years of experience in football.

He has close links with Premier League rivals Wolves and helped to transfer a number of his clients to the club.

Similarly, he is thought to be in close contact with Valencia, and thus a move to take his client Costa to the Mestalla Stadium looks to make sense.

However, Bordalas, who recently arrived from Getafe, appears to have taken a strong stance against players being bought for him.

Bordalas was well-known at Getafe for adopting tough tactics and having a big personality, and it looks like he has taken that to Valencia.

As such, it looks more likely that Costa will stick around at Elland Road now, unless something can be agreed very late on.

Valencia looks like a much less likely destination now, so it remains to be seen who else wants him in such a short space of time.

With Dan James looking likely to move to Leeds, Costa’s game time will be much reduced, and thus a deadline-day exit is vital for all parties.
