Leeds United pursuit of Dan James to go to deadline day

Leeds United are racing to sign Dan James ahead of two Premier League rivals in a transfer that is set to be decided on deadline day, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist, speaking on their ‘White and Jordan’ show on Monday [30/08/21], claims there is a three-way battle for the 23-year-old Manchester United winger.

“A more likely departure at Old Trafford to make room for Cristiano Ronaldo is Dan James,” Crooks said.

“There is lots of Premier League interest in him. Brighton, Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa would still like to take him to Elland Road, [and there is] possibly Leicester [City] as well.”

“So Dan James could emerge as one of the stories of deadline day.”

Race is on

If it’s down to the three teams mentioned, one would assume that Leeds have a great chance of winning that battle.

Brighton are a side with a much lower profile than the other duo and are more likely to be operating down the lower end of the table, as they did last season, though their attractive style of play may help their bid.

Leeds, meanwhile, finished in the top-ten and look to be trending upwards under Bielsa.

Leicester’s trump card, though, is the offer of European football.

It may not be the Champions League nights he enjoys at Old Trafford, but James could still play across the continent at the King Power Stadium this season.

Whoever wins the race will be getting one of the quickest and most dynamic wingers around, though one whose end product has been continually questioned.
