Transfer Insider hints at Leeds United move for Allan Saint-Maximin

Leeds United could switch their transfer focus to Allan Saint-Maximin if they miss out on Adama Traore, according to Dean Jones.

The Transfer Insider reports that the Whites are still looking at Traore but could also ponder a move for Saint-Maximin, whose future is uncertain.

The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Roma [Northern Echo] but Jones has linked Saint-Maximin with a move to Elland Road.

He told the Touchline Talk podcast, “So there will definitely be teams that look to sign him. I mean, you’re talking about somebody like Leeds. I mean, they’re looking at Adama Traore.

“Alright, if they can’t get him then yeah, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be looking down this path [at Saint-Maximin].”

Saint-Maximin has shared his unhappiness at Newcastle’s league position, and revealed his ambition to play for a top-half side that chases trophies, per talkSPORT.

He said, “I have to be honest, sometimes you have to think about yourself.

“The most important thing is the team, of course, but you have to think sometimes about your future and that’s why I say I don’t want to fight for one more year to be safe.”

Unique talent

There are very few players like Saint-Maximin in the Premier League and he is a player capable of conjuring up moments of magic.

A good example of that is his goal at Burnley a few weeks ago, when he ran from inside his own half before finishing expertly on his weaker foot, was described as “sensational” by Sky Sports.

No player glides past opponents as easily as the Frenchman, though Traore, Wilfred Zaha and Jack Grealish do come close.

Two of those four would likely demand a fee beyond what Leeds are capable of paying, so it makes sense that Traore and Saint-Maximin are on our shopping list.

We would be overjoyed if Saint-Maximin joined as we believe he is a player capable of playing Champions League football.

He has recorded four successful dribbles this term [WhoScored] and scored three goals and produced four assists in a struggling Newcastle side.

Other than Raphinha Leeds lack a player capable of producing something out of nothing – Saint-Maximin would certainly add that if he arrived in the summer.
