This is why Leeds United prefer Sheffield Wednesday for Harry Gray loan
Harry Gray is destined for another loan move from Leeds United this summer.
The young striker spent the majority of last season in League One with Rotherham, but that ended in relegation.
Despite that, Gray was a rare bright spot for the Millers.
Gray is already welcoming serious interest ahead of the new season, and it's looking likely that he could stay local again.
Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield are both interested.
And it looks like Leeds prefer those options, despite there also being Championship speculation over the striker.
Why Leeds United are happy to keep Harry Gray level low
Most believe that Gray is more than ready for a Championship loan, as he increases his senior experience.
Daniel Farke handed Gray his senior Leeds debut in that 6-0 win over Stoke that secured promotion in 2025, but that's as far as he's got so far.
So, with that interest, it's a surprise that Sheffield Wednesday are one of those among the favourites.
The Sheffield Star reports that Leeds currently prefer to keep Gray close should he move out on loan.
Described as a "major factor", the Owls and Huddersfield are the current frontrunners.
How did Harry Gray perform in League One?
While good, it was nowhere near enough to prove that he is ready for Premier League football.
With 20 starts in as many appearances, Gray was heavily backed by Rotherham to try and save them.
It only translated to three goals and one assist, though.
Gray did outperform his expected goals tally, with his teammates not exactly helping him when leading the line.
Things would be very different at Sheffield Wednesday, who are under new ownership and looking to return to the Championship immediately after that dark year.
With someone like Gray, who is capable of being that poacher in the box who can finish things off, similar to how Joel Piroe was once at Leeds, the Owls would be in business.
It's better for Gray and Leeds if the young striker is fighting for promotion in League One, rather than battling relegation in the Championship.
That's another reason on top of location for the Whites and Farke to be thinking about this summer.
