This is how much Leeds United must pay to seal Fotis Ioannidis transfer

Leeds United are eyeing Panathinakos star Fotis Ioannidis to resolve their attacking issues.

Daniel Farke is desperate for new options at Elland Road as he tries to keep Leeds in the Premier League this season.

Mateo Joseph has departed Leeds, Patrick Bamford is free to leave, and there are concerns over Joel Piroe’s ability to step up at the elite level.

Leeds are set to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but given his injury history, they need more than one new striker, and Ioannidis may be their man.

Panathinaikos to demand £21.5m from Leeds for Ioannidis

Leeds have turned to Ioannidis as a potential alternative option to Piroe and Calvert-Lewin, and they may have encouragement in the race for his signature.

Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos claimed on 14 August that the Athens-based outfit will not hold talks if their asking price is not met.

He stated that the fee that they would demand is between £21.5million to £25.8m, if they are to let the 25-year-old leave.

Leeds should move on from Ioannidis pursuit

Ioannidis is far from the finished article that the Whites need right now, and as a result, they should move on to a different target, especially with a price tag in that range.

Leeds have been linked with the likes of Nikola Krstovic and Rodrigo Muniz, who would both be better options than the Greek international.

He has never played outside of his homeland, whereas the aforementioned duo have proven that they can thrive outside the comforts of their own country.

Ioannidis notched 11 goals last season in all competitions, but he has only ever hit double figures in the league once, in the 2023/24 season, when he got 15 strikes.

He has never been a prolific goalscorer in the Greek league, which is a far lower quality than the English top-flight.

The Peacocks cannot afford to panic, with just over two weeks of the transfer window left, and getting the wrong striker in the door could be disastrous.

The new addition will likely be the main man in their survival battle, and there is no evidence that the Greek ace could handle the pressure that comes with that, considering his previous performance in a worse division.
