Leeds United are in the mix for Matias Orozco, who is hours away from moving to the Premier League.

The youngster currently plays for Deportivo Cali in his Colombian homeland.

He is aged just 18 and plays as a holding midfielder, where his performances have caught the eye of many.

Orozco made more than 30 appearances last season, despite only turning 18 in December.

Leeds are not alone in showing an interest, but they will not have to wait long to find out if they have won the race.

That is amid an update emerging out of South America on the teenage talent.

What is being reported on Leeds target Matias Orozco?

It is fair to say Orozco is not exactly a name many - if any - supporters will be familiar with.

Supporters are eager for first-team signings, with Mykhailo Mudryk the latest name on Leeds' radar.

But planning for the long term is also important for not just Leeds but any club.

According to Colombian journalist Mariano Olsen, who works for Win Sports, "jewel" Orozco is heading to an "important team" in the Premier League.

In a separate report via Caracol Radio, Leeds are named as one of the teams in for the teenager, along with Liverpool and Brentford.

Olsen, in a reply to a question asking if Brentford are the team to have won the race for his signature, simply replied: "No."

That could leave Liverpool and Leeds as the two sides in the running, though the Reds do seem the favourites at this stage.

The journalist adds that a deal will be concluded "in the coming hours".

Whoever wins the race for Orozco will already know exactly how much they need to pay.

How much will Orozco cost as transfer nears?

Due to his age, Orozco could become a homegrown player for whichever English team he joins.

That is an added bonus, with the undoubted potential what makes him so highly thought of.

Orozco is reported to have a £5.1million release clause, which is pennies in the current market.

He will likely be part of the Under-21s setup for the team he joins, before being loaned out elsewhere to gain further first-team experience in a tougher league.

And if it is Leeds who win the race, this could be an exciting deal that pays off a few years from now.
