TalkSPORT journalist: This is what I've been told about Che Adams move to Leeds

Leeds United have made Southampton’s Che Adams their number one striker target this January after Eddie Nketiah was recalled early from his loan by Arsenal.

However, it’s not going to be easy to convince a player who’s starting in the Premier League to drop down a division.

And it might be completely impossible if talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook is right.

He tweeted on Friday to say, “Am told that Southampton have no intention of allowing reported Leeds target Che Adams to leave this month”.

Crook delivered the bad news to Leeds fans on Friday morning.

Is that the end of the line?

There’s a lot of time left in the January window and Leeds are obviously interested.

Writing on The Athletic, Phil Hay said that he’d heard Southampton were looking for a new striker this January.

If that happened, then Southampton could decide that Adams would be better off with a loan move, with the prospect of game time for him severely diminished on the south coast.

However, Adams was always going to be a long shot. After this update we hope that Leeds have a plan B as getting in a quality replacement for Nektiah and a solid back-up for Patrick Bamford will be critical in the second half of the season for Leeds.

One thing we can’t afford to do is put everything on Adams, find out late that he’s not available and have nowhere else to turn.
