Sunderland make £10m transfer call on Trai Hume amid Leeds United development

Sunderland have slapped a £10million price tag on defender and Leeds United target Trai Hume, according to Belfast Telegraph.

The report (back page, 19 July) indicates that the Black Cats have no desire to sell the 22-year-old full-back and will do everything they can to keep hold of him.

In addition to that, Premier League clubs Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Leicester City are also in the hunt to secure Hume’s signature (Leeds Live, 17 June).

Leeds United’s Hume desire

In the wake of their failed attempt to gain promotion back to the Premier League, Leeds United will see this as a key campaign. They have a squad that’s capable of challenging again but in order to reach that next level, they need some incoming stars.

With Connor Roberts and Luke Ayling both departing Elland Road, right-back is a position that Leeds desperately need some help in. Hume, who is a Northern Ireland international, played in every single league game for Sunderland in the Championship last season. While they wound up finishing in 16th place, Hume was easily one of their stand-out names.

Obviously battling it out with Premier League sides is going to prove tricky, but if Leeds can offer the youngster a chance to thrive with consistent first-team football, he could quickly become the focal point of this line-up. Plus, based on Leeds’ attacking style of play, you’d have to think this would give him the creative outlet to really shine.

Either way, it feels like this could be a lengthy pursuit for everyone involved.
