Dave is a huge Leeds fan and ardent disciple of Bielsa ball. A career in print magazines that included editing PC Zone, launching PokerPlayer and redesigning The Big Issue has finally led Dave to writing about the love of his life, Leeds United. It’s been a tough 2020 but the single scariest moment was the first quarter of the game against Man City. Rodrigo will be the saviour this season.

Lille are preparing a final offer of £27m for Gent striker Jonathan David, that should seal a deal for the French side.

That will dash the hopes of Leeds fans who were left excited earlier this week when the Gent chairman Ivan De Witte said that Leeds had submitted a better offer than Lille's initial £23m. [Voetbalkrant ]

Now French outlet La Voix Des Sports has said that while Gent are still mulling over a second £24.2m offer, Lille are set to offer the full £27m asking price.

If completed, that would make David the most expensive export from the Jupiler Pro League.

CanPL Brasil, an outlet focusing on Canadian football, added an update that said, "David turned down Leeds United's offer and the English club ended negotiations."

David out, Watkins in?

This seems pretty categoric but Leeds fans have already moved onto another, even more exciting, target.

Ollie Watkins, the second top scorer in the Championship, is now on the radar after a substantial report on Leeds' summer transfer targets from Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

A deal for Watkins would probably hinge on Fulham beating Brentford in the play-off final on Tuesday night, but that just gives added interest for Leeds fans.

Meanwhile, the Sun claims that Leeds are on the brink of signing young Wigan striker Joe Gelhardt for £1m from cash-torn Wigan.

That represents almost a no-risk gamble on a player who Wigan fans have compared to Wayne Rooney.

He will be for the Under-23s at first but we'd expect him to be knocking on the door of the Leeds' first-team next season.

And, in yet more striker news, Ryan Edmondson has gone out on a six-month loan to Aberdeen, who kick off their new season tomorrow against Rangers.

It's been a busy day for Leeds United fans but David is one name that can seemingly be struck from the list.
