Leeds United haven’t made a habit of sending out players on loan – unless it’s players who don’t have a future under Marcelo Bielsa.
They prefer to develop players themselves, under the watchful eye of Bielsa and Carlos Corberan (now left for the manager job at Huddersfield).
That policy could be changing and it’s great news for popular striker Ryan Edmondson.
Leeds fans have been calling for Edmondson to get a chance under Bielsa and those calls become more strident given the striker problems of last season.
However, Bielsa obviously didn’t think Edmondson was ready – or just didn’t fancy the striker.
It seems it’s the former. Edmondson has joined Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen on a half-season loan.
That news was announced today by Leeds United.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth added another level of detail to the story.
He said that Leeds are looking at a new contract for the young striker.

The 19-year-old has been Leeds’ top-scorer in the Under-23s for the past two seasons and was a big part of the triumphant PDL National title win in the 18/19 season with 20 goals.
He scored eight goals for the Under-23s this season but the campaign was cut short because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
If Edmondson had stayed at Leeds with just a year left on his contract, his future would have been in doubt.
Now, he’s going to have a chance to show what he can do on the big stage. The quality in the Premiership in Scotland might veer between Championship and League One level, but the Dons will be fighting at the top with Rangers and Celtic, and they’re set for Europa League qualifiers.
Edmondson needs to prove he can score outside of the Under-23s and if he has a stellar six months he could fire his way into Bielsa’s reckoning.
We’ll be watching his games north of the border with interest and with our fingers crossed.
We’d love Edmondson to be the latest success story from the Leeds Academy.
