Spotted: Mateusz Klich in Spain as Leeds United exit speculation goes into overdrive

Mateusz Klich is in Spain with the rest of the Leeds United squad despite major speculation surrounding his future going into the January transfer window.

Klich, 32, has dropped down the pecking order since Jesse Marsch took charge at Elland Road and he’s yet to start a Premier League game for the Yorkshire club this season.

TeamTalk reported on 1 December that there’s a queue of clubs looking to sign the 41-times Poland international in January while Dean Jones told GiveMeSport on 27 November that the midfielder is “very frustrated” and is actively looking to exit Elland Road next month.

Despite reports of Klich’s unhappiness and the fact he could be off next month, the long-serving midfielder has been spotted training with the rest of the Leeds squad in Spain as they prepare for the second half of the season.

As shown on Leeds’ Spanish Twitter account on 4 December, Klich is seen alongside a coach as he goes under his paces ahead of a friendly game against Elche next week.

Klich on his way out?

Klich’s a top professional so we doubt that he’ll try and force his way out of Leeds this winter by refusing to play or train or anything like that.

He’s been on the books at Elland Road since 2017, becoming one of Victor Orta’s first additions as the director of football.

Although he was overlooked by Thomas Christiansen and sent out on loan in his first season, Marcelo Bielsa saw the true quality the Polish midfielder had and made him a mainstay of his side.

Klich’s gone on to play 192 times in all competitions for the Whites, helping them win promotion to the Premier League and then solidify their spot in the top flight for the last couple of seasons.

Klich’s energy, work rate and ability to drive the ball forward have contributed towards his success at Elland Road but unfortunately for him, Marsch either doesn’t see what Bielsa sees in the midfielder or age is getting the better of him.

His contract expires at the end of next year so with 18 months left to run on it in January, it could be a good time to cash in on the former FC Twente ace.

We’ll miss Klich and forever be grateful for what he’s done at Leeds.

But it is time for him to move on now.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are aiming to get this “human wrecking ball” out of Elland Road in January.
