Leeds United want to send Joe Gelhardt to Championship in January

Joe Gelhardt is being sounded out to Championship clubs over a potential loan deal away from Leeds United, according to Leeds All Over.

The 20-year-old has found games hard to come by in the Premier League this season with Rodrigo in fine form and other players stepping up to the plate after a summer of high turnover.

The majority of his 11 Premier League games have come from the bench but Jesse Marsch now wants the “human wrecking ball” (as Jamie Redknapp once described him) to get regular football elsewhere.

No specific clubs were mentioned as having interest in the youngster who has been semi-regular in Michael Skubala’s Under-21 side this season, most recently in the Papa John’s Trophy against Crewe Alexandra.

Despite no cubs being named, interest is thought to be very high in the 20-year-old and one club, in particular, is extremely keen to bring him in temporarily.

At times last season, Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa needed his fearlessness to grind out a result and he endeared himself to the Elland Road faithful as he did it but now he needs more.

Rodrigo, Wilfried Gnonto, Crysenscio Summverille and others have made it very difficult for him to get game time for Leeds United and he can’t afford to be sitting around on the bench at this stage in his career.

The Championship is the perfect proving ground for any young Premier League player as Charlie Cresswell is proving during his time at Millwall.

His goal-scoring prowess in some very big moments in the Premier League should also see most if not all of the second-tier clubs put their hat into the ring.

Leeds should be able to have a wide range of options to send him out when the January window opens and when he returns to Thorp Arch, he should be pushing for a starting spot very hard.

In other Leeds United news, this Elland Road star could be considered for the captaincy role after what he has shown in the past two weeks.
