Tyler Adams commands Leeds United captaincy as USA dressing room footage emerges

Liam Cooper has been the undisputed captain of Leeds United for some time now but perhaps a change in approach good wield better results.

Prior to the World Cup starting in Qatar, no Whites supporter would have necessarily considered 23-year-old midfielder Tyler Adams as captain material this season.

But he has taken the armband off Christian Pulisic for his national team and has helped lead them to the knockout stages of the tournament where they will face the Netherlands.

The United States Men’s National Team Twitter account released a video of the dressing room after they had scraped to a 1-0 over Iran to book their spot in the last 16 and Adams is at the centre of everything.

Coach Gregg Berhalter singles him out for special praise after a tireless midfield performance but Adams was quick to put the emphasis back on the whole team and support staff.

“We have suffered today. It wasn’t easy by any means and this (the match ball) can go to a lot of people today,” he said. “But I am really proud to be part of this team with you guys and I would go to war with you guys any time. Thank you.”

That ‘go to war’ mentality might be the secret ingredient Leeds United are lacking right now and if he can get the whole squad playing with that same ethos then who knows how far this club could go.

His impressive form in Qatar comes as no surprise to Whites fans and Jesse Marsch will be delighted for both his star man and his country at the way the tournament has gone so far.

But when he returns to Elland Road, he might have to consider handing the armband over to Adams and allowing him to take the reins in leading the club out of danger and towards the top half of the table.

In other Leeds United news, United States senator Cory Booker sent a Twitter message to one Whites ace after he helped the States out of the groups.
