Sources reveal who was to blame as Leeds fail with late move for Harry Wilson

Leeds United have missed out on the signing of Harry Wilson from Fulham.

Leeds were waiting for the green light to sign Wilson earlier on 1 September, with the 7pm transfer deadline looming at Elland Road.

This came after Wilson emerged as a last-gasp target for Leeds earlier in the day as Daniel Farke looked to add a fresh attacking option to his squad.

Fulham rejected a loan approach for Wilson, encouraging the Whites to table a permanent offer for the Wales international.

With the window now closed, the Yorkshire club have missed out of Wilson, with inside sources sharing the exact reasons for the transfer failure.

Harry Wilson transfer failure explained at Leeds United

Questions were raised at Leeds about whether Wilson had actually signed from Fulham after a busy deadline day filled with fresh details.

When 7pm came and went, there was no sign of an announcement, and it has since been revealed that a deal didn’t go through in LS11.

This has seen the versatile attacking midfielder – described as “outstanding” by Wales boss Craig Bellamy – remain at Craven Cottage as Marco Silva’s side was looking to make moves of their own in the market.

With that being said, Leeds had attempted to get a deal done with The Athletic reporting on 1 September that the Yorkshire club had filled their part of a deal sheet.

Elland Road sources have indicated that Fulham’s side of the document wasn’t filed in time before the window came to a close.

On the flip side, insiders at Fulham have disputed this claim, suggesting that Wilson was never available for sale and Leeds were made aware of that fact well before 7pm.

Leeds needed someone like Harry Wilson

It hasn’t been a bad window from a Leeds perspective, but the general lack of true Premier League experience and creativity may represent a concern.

There is no getting away from the fact that Wilson wouldn’t have been a superstar signing, but could have had a positive impact in Yorkshire.

His creativity and ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat could have been perfect for Farke’s squad after a mixed start to the new season.

Either the Welshman or Emi Buendia would have been excellent options, but in the end, the Whites will have to settle for what they’ve got until at least January.
