Sky Sports: Leeds table £25m bid for player
Leeds United have tabled a third bid for Brighton centre-back Ben White, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster claimed on their live transfer blog on Wednesday [7:07pm] that Leeds have offered £25million for the 22-year-old defender.
It is understood that the Whites have already seen two bids rejected by the Seagulls worth £18.5million and £22million.
It remains to be seen whether or not Brighton will accept Leeds’ latest bid but Times journalist Duncan Castles has said on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast that the south coast club wants a whopping £55million for White.
If that is the case, surely Brighton won’t accept that bid?
The Mirror has reported that Leeds have already hit an impasse in their talks with Brighton because the Seagulls are refusing to sell the in-demand centre-back.
While we would love to see White back at Elland Road, can you blame Brighton too much for their stance?
White was superb while on loan at Leeds last season as Marcelo Bielsa’s side won promotion to the Premier League.
Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with him and Gareth Southgate has even spoken about him potentially getting called up to England duty in the future.
White is the complete, modern-day centre-back who can pass the ball, can read opposition attacks brilliantly and is strong in the air. It also helps that he’s young, English and is a perfect fit for Bielsa’s style of play.
We don’t expect anyone to go anywhere near £55million in their bid to sign White this summer but if Leeds haven’t already reached that point, surely they are not far away from a figure that the south coast club cannot say no to.
In other Leeds United news, this Leeds-linked centre-back is set to say goodbye to his club.
