Sky Sports: Leeds could splash £10m+ on three players, journalist warns fans of disappointment

Sky Sports have reported that Leeds United could spend over £10million each on a new centre-forward, winger and centre-back.

Leeds fans are excited by what could happen in the transfer window this summer with the club finally back in the Premier League after 16 years.

However, Sky Sports journalist Simeon Gholam has warned fans they could be disappointed if they expect Marcelo Bielsa to make a marquee centre-forward signing.

“First things first is that any player that arrives will have been analysed at length by Marcelo Bielsa and his team to ensure they fit his structure and system. Those expecting an ‘upgrade’ for Patrick Bamford up front may be sorely disappointed as the front man is so vital to the way Leeds play, and he is only likely to be replaced by a player who can do the same job,” said Gholam.

He’s right. If anything, we can see Leeds doing very little business this summer and Bielsa trying to head into the new season without making many changes to the squad that won the Championship title.

It would be a bold move, especially as Norwich pretty much tried that approach this season and finished bottom of the Premier League despite winning the Championship title last year.

Leeds simply must sign one or two new centre-backs though with it looking unlikely that Ben White will return to Elland Road after such a strong loan spell from Brighton. Gholam says that White’s exit leaves a “huge gap to fill”.

Leeds have already been linked with a lot of players, especially players from Argentina. But that might be more down to the media’s excitement about Leeds and Bielsa being in the Premier League next season, rather than there being any concrete interest from Victor Orta and his scouting department.

Whatever happens this summer, we trust Bielsa and we trust Orta too as any player he suggests has to get the green light from the Argentine.
