Sell-on clause for Nottingham Forest if Leeds United can sign Ben Brereton Diaz in January

Leeds United would have to offer “mad” money to sign Blackburn forward Ben Brereton Diaz in January, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Sunday, the Sun journalist reported that there’s a sell-on clause in Brereton Diaz’s contract at Ewood Park that would see his former club Nottingham Forest earn a percentage of his transfer fee should he leave Blackburn.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 15 December, Jim White and Alex Crook reported that Leeds and West Ham are interested in signing the 22-year-old Chile international in January.

No chance

We really don’t see Blackburn selling Brereton Diaz in January, especially when the Lancashire club are doing so well in the Championship.

After beating Birmingham 4-0 on Saturday, in which Brereton Diaz scored his 18th and 19th goals of the Championship season, Tony Mowbray’s side moved up to third in the table.

Leeds United

Winning fives games in a row has taken Rovers within one point of second-placed Bournemouth – so why would they sell Brereton Diaz now?

If Blackburn are promoted, they’ll earn around £100million. Would you fancy them to get promoted if they sell Brereton Diaz for around £20-25million in January? No, you would not.

Leeds do need a back-up striker.

However, Marcelo Bielsa also needs players in a multitude of positions amid this current injury crisis at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford will come back at some point and will Brereton Diaz sign knowing he’d be on the bench as soon as that happens? It’s unlikely.

We really don’t see him joining us in January.

In other Leeds United news, the Daily Mail has reared its ugly head again with a disgraceful story about this Whites ace.
