Jim White shares Wednesday update on Leeds United pursuit of Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton Diaz

Leeds United have been joined by a Premier League rival in the race to sign Blackburn Rovers centre-forward Ben Brereton Diaz, according to talkSPORT.

Speaking to journalist Alex Crook via talkSPORT on Wednesday (15 December), Jim White said: “Now Alex, big interest we understand this lunchtime in a Championship player, what have you got?”

Crook replied: “He’s just about the hottest property outside the Premier League right now, his name is Ben Brereton Diaz. 17 goals in 22 games this season. We understand he is attracting interest from the likes of Leeds and West Ham in the Premier League.”

South American star

Brereton Diaz has been linked with a move to Elland Road by various news outlets, but ex-Sky Sports icon White has now delivered a December update on the 22-year-old Chile international who has shone in the second-tier this season.

Only Fulham’s Aleksandr Mitrovic [22] has scored more goals than him in the Championship during the 2021/22 campaign.

The Stoke-born forward made his international debut for Chile earlier this year and has since scored three goals for his adopted nation, who he qualifies through via his mother.

Leeds’ desperation for a new centre-forward has been laid bare by Patrick Bamford’s latest injury, suffered on his goalscoring return to action against Brentford earlier this month (5 December).

Raphinha is the only Leeds player to score more than twice in the Premier League this season, and Brereton Diaz could be the mid-season boost the Whites need to stave off a relegation dogfight.
