Simon Jordan makes Marcelo Bielsa and Ralf Rangnick comparison in sneer at Leeds United boss narrative

Simon Jordan has railed against the narrative surrounding the likes of Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick and Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Tuesday (14 December), the ex-Crystal Palace owner sneered at the adulation Rangnick appears to be receiving from his peers.

Jordan said: “I don’t like all this acolyte mentality that everyone suddenly pops up and goes ‘ooh, I’m a student of his’ like we have to hear about [Pep] Guardiola, or Bielsa more to the point, everyone that pops up.

“Back in the day it was [Jose] Mourinho, and everyone was a disciple of Mourinho.”

Broadcaster Jim White nodded along and said “Yeah” when Bielsa’s name was mentioned.

Disciples?

Jordan appears to take umbrage with the fawning over managers in the Premier League.

The likes of Bielsa, Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have all been the subject of rich praise and adulation over the last few years for their transformative effects on Leeds, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively.

Bielsa, for example, is held in high regard by Guardiola and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, both of whom have credited the Argentine with enormous influence on their management styles.

Perhaps it can sometimes extend into a lust that feels so out of touch for football pundits who want to debate controversies and commentate on hate-fuelled spats but, once in a while, it’s nice to hear complimentary remarks about legendary figures in football.

Rangnick’s recent appointment at Manchester United doesn’t seem to have won Jordan around completely, and all those associated with Leeds will be hoping that the German comes unstuck at Old Trafford to continue the Red Devils’ current malaise.
