‘Doesn’t feel like it’s going to happen’: Phil Hay claims talented Leeds youngster could be done

Silly season is here for Leeds United and with it has come the usual deluge of transfer rumours and speculation.

However, one of the more bizarre stories we’ve seen this window came on Thursday.

It all started when a ‘part-owner’ of Cork, Kevin Cronin, claimed that young Leeds striker Ryan Edmondson was set to train with his club ahead of a potential loan move.

However, it didn’t take long for Edmondson himself to rubbish the story.

He replied to the thread on Twitter saying, “Think your source is lying to you mate. I am very much so still sat in my living room at home.”

That led to Cronin deleting all of his previous tweets and replying to Edmondson with “FFS….”

So, it doesn’t look like Edmondson is going anywhere, yet, although we don’t think a move is out of the question this January.

He’s one of the few prominent Under-23 players who hasn’t been given a shot by Marcelo Bielsa yet, and given the obvious shortcomings upfront after Eddie Nketiah was recalled, there’s clearly something wrong.

Edmondson has scored eight goals for the Under-23s this season so his form doesn’t seem to have dropped off.

But, for whatever reason, Edmondson isn’t catching the eye.

That’s the view of Athletic journalist Phil Hay, too, who talked about Edmondson on the latest episode of his podcast.

“He didn’t have a great summer by all accounts and the feeling is that he didn’t progress in the same way as other Under-23s who caught the eye for Bielsa,” Hay said.

“All I can deduce is that he’s not sold on Edmondson at all or that he’s not ready at the moment. One way or the other he doesn’t feel he’s ready and he doesn’t feel like he fits the team.

“Edmondson doesn’t seem to be making any progress despite his goals. I sort of feel if he hasn’t played yet when is he going to, and it doesn’t feel like it’s going to happen.”

That would be a real shame for a player who Leeds fans have been waiting to see in the senior side.

If it is the case, a move in January could well be the best for club and for player.
