Cameron Brannagan of Oxford United has appeared as a name linked to Leeds United on Thursday in The Telegraph.

He’s having a standout season in central midfield for a side going for promotion, so it seems unlikely, but, with 18 months left on his contract, David Ornstein of the Athletic says he could be available for circa £1m in January or the summer.

If that price is true, somebody could get a ridiculously good deal. With all Leeds’ central midfield options struggling with recurring injury problems this season, this could make perfect sense for Leeds and at that price wouldn’t cause them issues with FFP.

The price does seem crazily low though, but we can’t claim to know more than David Ornstein. It just seems to be very strange for a side going for promotion to let their best player go for such a low price.

We’ve had a lot of injuries in midfield this season, meaning Stuart Dallas has played there a lot more than we’d like. We would think if we went for him he’d get games for us. Adam Forshaw hasn’t played since the Charlton game and Jamie Shackleton has only had three appearances.

Shackleton would have played a lot if he’d stayed fit. If he returns he’ll get good game time, but it will be interesting to see how his hamstrings hold up. It seemed to be a recurring injury for him this season.
