Leeds United are interested in signing Freiburg winger Roland Sallai but will face competition before August 30, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The website reported [22 August] that the winger is expected to receive offers that would at least rival any proposition Leeds could make.

After playing a key role for Hungary at Euro 2024, the forward's availability has changed in recent weeks, with the Whites monitoring his situation before the transfer window slams shut.

Leeds United to sign Roland Sallai in last-minute transfer flurry?

Following the departures of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, and Wilfried Gnonto being linked with a move again, Daniel Farke is desperate for reinforcements.

The manager has already voiced his need for at least four new signings before the transfer window closes [The Athletic], and those demands are finally being answered by the 49ers after the most recent update.

Leeds are nearing a deal for the signing of Largie Ramazani from Almeria [La Voz de Almeria], an exciting left-winger from La Liga, but any new signings will find it extremely difficult to replace Summerville on the flank.

Sallai is a much more experienced forward, having made 161 appearances for Freiburg since 2018 and winning 52 international caps for Hungary, remaining an important player for his nation.

The 27-year-old has proven his ability in the Bundesliga and the Europa League over the last few seasons, which could make him a key signing for Leeds if promotion to the Premier League is to be secured this term.

Farke will need more reinforcements before the 30 August deadline, but the signings of Ramazani and Sallai are certainly a decent step forward to freshening up the forward line.

While Gnonto and Dan James are more than capable of occupying the flanks, the attacking midfield spot is now a new concern, with more depth needed on the flanks now.
