Manchester United are readying a clearout of fringe players and Leeds United are interested in Hannibal Mejbri, according to David Anderson.

The Daily Mirror journalist reported via his personal X account [21 August] that Facundo Pellistri, 22, is joining Panathinaikos, with Mejbri also being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Leeds are set to face competition from Burnley for the Tunisian international this month, having spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Sevilla.

Leeds United to beat Burnley to Hannibal Mejbri signing?

Mejbri is certainly a talented player but he's been offered limited chances in the first-team at Old Trafford after joining from Monaco in 2019.

He made just 10 senior appearances for Erik ten Hag's side in the first half of last season before being sent out on loan, where he only made six La Liga outings before returning.

This will have come as a surprise after his superb season-long loan at Birmingham City during the 2022/23 campaign, making 38 Championship appearances, and even hitting the back of the net.

While the player has been known to have a temper, picking up 10 yellow cards during that loan spell, that kind of energy and tenacity could be of use to Daniel Farke this season.

The German is without Archie Gray and Glen Kamara after both found new homes during the summer, leaving him with just Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev in midfield.

Although the duo have formed a decent partnership in the middle of the park, there are few options from the bench if injury strikes, even with Joe Rothwell joining on loan from Bournemouth.

Mejbri, a fully-fledged international, already has 26 caps for Tunisia and would bring plenty of experience to the Leeds squad despite being just 21 years of age.
