Report shares sources verdict on recent Leeds United-Nahitan Nandez speculation

Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb recently claimed that Leeds United have re-opened talks over a deal for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.

It was reported that Leeds had re-initiated talks with the Serie A side and the 25-year-old after the long-time target’s Inter Milan discussions failed to make much progress.

However, LUFC FanZone shared quotes from their ‘source’ on their Twitter account on Sunday [15/08/21].

“I am aware of the new speculation but there’s nothing concrete in the rumours,” the source told LUFC FanZone.

They tweeted that a possible transfer has been “ruled out” at the present time.

All on O’Brien?

Nandez is a versatile player who can operate from full-back and on the wing, but the Uruguayan would likely come in as a central midfielder were the Whites to firm up their apparent interest in him.

However, the chances of signing Nandez appear to be fading away by the day.

Besides, it looks like we have Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien in our crosshairs instead.

That would be a signing that is unlikely to inspire Leeds fans as much as South American star Nandez, but it seems the club are determined to land players for good value and do not want to splash out on expensive recruits.

Only time will tell if that is the right decision to take, and maybe they are just keeping money in reserve to make a late swoop for another winger or attacker.

But Saturday’s humiliation against Manchester United at Old Trafford will pile a bit more pressure on the board to make a statement signing.

Nandez would certainly be one of those, but it looks like we won’t be making a move for him, at least not imminently.
