Report: Leeds United set to sign Watford teenager James Debayo
Leeds United are set to beat a host of Premier League rivals to the signing of Watford teenager James Debayo, according to online platform Rising Ballers.
They are known to break news on some of the hottest talent in the country, and their latest report suggests Leeds are close to capturing a highly rated defender from newly-promoted Watford.
Rising Ballers claim the Watford Under-16 star “has decided to join Leeds this summer” on their Twitter profile.
The Whites have reportedly beaten the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to his signature, and he “chose Leeds for a pathway to the first team.”
Another young star?
We won’t pretend to know too much about Debayo, but the fact that he has attracted so much interest indicates just how highly rated this boy is.
We look set to emerge as winners in a six-way battle that included Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea, so that’s an extremely good sign.
The reason given for choosing Leeds sums it all up – he knows this is the place for stars to emerge.
The likes of Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood saw their profiles rise massively after joining the Whites, with both enjoying tremendous success in the Under-23 side that won the Premier League 2 (Divison 2) title last term.
Both earned call-ups to the senior squad under Marcelo Bielsa and look set for bright futures.
Bielsa has shown that he is not afraid to give young players a chance, so we are now an extremely attractive proposition for young stars now.
Debayo earned international youth recognition last year, so it looks like we could have another prodigious talent on our hands here.
In other Leeds United news, Victor Orta has sent a trio of scouts to watch over this Euro 2020 clash on Tuesday.
