Report: Victor Orta sends Leeds United trio on Hungary v Portugal scouting mission
Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has devised a three-man team to watch Hungary play Portugal on Tuesday evening, according to Turkish journalist Talha Arslan.
Hungary are set to host their Group F rivals at the Puskas Arena at 17:00 (BST) on Tuesday.
There will be zero Leeds players on the field but they will be well represented in the stadium with a trio of interested onlookers in attendance.
Writing on his personal Twitter profile, Turkish journalist Arslan, who works as a Fenerbahce reporter for publications such as Haber365, has claimed that there will be some Whites scouts watching tonight’s Euro 2020 clash.
He wrote: “The three-man team, appointed by Leeds United Sporting Director Victor Orta, will watch today’s Hungary-Portugal match from the stands.”
Who are we watching?
Well, Arslan does not mention a player specifically, but we think we’ve narrowed it down to one prime suspect.
Arslan is a Turkish journalist who specialises in Super Lig giants Fenerbahce and there is one player who currently plays for them in Hungary’s Euro 2020 squad – Attila Szalai.
The 23-year-old central defender has already courted Premier League interest, according to Hungarian news outlet Blikk, who reported in April that the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United were interested.
A £21.5million fee was mooted back then.
If Szalai is the player Orta has sent scouts to watch then it surely places huge doubts over one of our existing options in the middle of defence, with Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper already battling it out for two spots in the starting XI.
