Report: Conor Gallagher to snub Leeds loan move in the summer

According to The Sun, Leeds United are in the hunt for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in a summer loan.

However, it seems that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place in Thomas Tuchel’s side next season.

The 21-year-old has impressed this season on loan at West Bromwich Albion despite the club facing the imminent threat of relegation.

At the end of his loan spell, he will go back to Stamford Bridge and does not want to be loaned out again as he believes he’s ready to push for a first-team spot.

Thomas Tuchel took over mid-season and has turned the fortunes around for the Blues. Gallagher is understood to be impressed by the German’s influence and wants to train under him.

However, should Tuchel feel that the midfielder is not ready for the next step, he could loan the player back out, opening the door for Leeds to get him on loan this summer.

There’s still hope

Gallagher’s performances have stood out this season even though West Brom find themselves on the cusp of relegation.

The 21-year-old, who has been labeled the ‘Next Frank Lampard’ by Telegraph’s John Percy, has been on Leeds’ radar for over a year and they were keen on signing him in the summer as well after he impressed in the Championship last term.

He featured for Charlton and then for Swansea in the second half of the season, and did well for both sides, scoring six and assisting 11. He also helped Swansea make the play-offs.

Given the plethora of riches Tuchel has at his disposal, the chances of Gallagher featuring in that team are slim at best.

Predominantly an attacking midfielder who likes to play in the hole, Gallagher has played in a slightly withdrawn position this term but has still thrived.

He could play the Mateusz Klich role or could be deployed where Rodrigo has played this season.

Like a Swiss army knife, Gallagher offers the team vital ammunition in the final third, and if we can get him on loan, it would free up funds to invest elsewhere.
