Report claims Gjanni Alioski has signed a deal with Galatasaray
Leeds United defender Gjanni Alioski has signed a deal to join Galatasary according to Turkish outlet Fotomac.
Football Insider first revealed Alioski agreed to the move in March but talk of the switch has died down in the intervening weeks.
Fotomac suggest that is because the left-back is waiting for the completion of the Premier League before announcing the move, due to the possible reaction of Leeds fans to the news.
It is understood Alioski has asked Galatasaray to delay the announcement because he is “afraid of the reaction of Leeds United fans”.
New signing imminent?
If the report is true then Victor Orta must start preparing for life without Alioski, and that means identifying a replacement.
A number of left-backs have been linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks, and we like the idea of Nicolas Tagliafico joining from Ajax.
Josh Doig was linked in January [Goal] and he could be the latest prospect to come out of Scotland after being nominated for SFWA young player of the year – following in the footsteps of Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney.
But while 18-year-old Doig is one for the future, Tagliafico would make an immediate impact at the club.
He would arrive with Champions League pedigree and is a champion of the Dutch league, so we are sure he would have a positive influence around the dressing room.
It is important we sign a player who contributes on and off the pitch, and that they fit Marcelo Bielsa’s style.
Luke Ayling is so effective at bombing up and down the right flank and we need a player with his energy on the left.
Kevin Phillips has described Alioski as a player capable of “producing a bit of magic” [Football Insider], so it would be nice if we could add a full-back who possesses that attribute too.
In other Leeds United news, Orta is readying a big Leeds bid for an international midfielder with 17 goals and assists this season.
