Reason for Joseph Paintsil collapse shared as Leeds United transfer off
Leeds United’s move for Joseph Paintsil collapsed after they couldn’t agree terms with Genk or the player, according to Ghanasoccernet.
Writing on their official website (28 August), the news outlet report that the player has emerged as a target for Championship rivals Southampton after a move to Elland Road collapsed.
The Whites tabled an £8m bid for the Ghana forward, but the deal is now dead with Leeds looking at alternatives and the report suggests it’s because Leeds couldn’t agree personal terms with the player or a fee with Genk.

“The negotiations between Paintsil’s current club, Genk, and Leeds United reached an impasse, leading to the deal’s collapse,” they wrote.
“Ghanasoccernet understands that both the offered terms and personal agreements fell short of expectations, prompting the decision to withdraw from the negotiations.”
Move on
Leeds were looking to add to their attacking options with the addition of Paintsil, but it seems that boat has sailed now.
Wilfried Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra and Joel Piroe look like they’ll be tasked with leading the line going forward, while other attacking options include Georginio Rutter Crysencio Summerville, Daniel James and Ian Poveda currently alongside the injured Patrick Bamford.

Unless the club is anticipating an exit for one of those players in the final days of the window then it would seem as though Paintsil would simply be a luxury anyway and not a necessity, with the squad full of top talent.
It’s good that the club have set their limit and not gone above it, especially amid talk of Genk moving the goalposts at the last minute.
We move on to other potential targets and other areas of the squad, and leave Paintsil to wonder ‘what if’ when it comes to a potential Elland Road career.
