Real Betis want to sign Leeds ace Firpo now as complications emerge elsewhere

Real Betis want to sign Leeds United ace Junior Firpo now after their interest in Aston Villa loanee Alex Moreno became “complicated,” according to ABC Sevilla.

The Spanish newspaper reported via their print edition (22 January) that Moreno’s “high salary” is what caused a stumbling block in the La Liga outfit’s pursuit of the Spaniard, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The report also adds that the fact Monchi is Villa’s sporting director also doesn’t help matters much due to his past ties with Sevilla.

All in all, this means that a move for Moreno is unlikely which means that Manuel Pellegrini’s attention has been turned back to Firpo especially because he could arrive for free.

The report states that Betis want to bring Firpo back to the club now rather than wait for his contract to expire in June.

Leeds United cannot allow Junior Firpo to exit Elland Road for free

Although the future of Firpo at Elland Road has been under question since the start of the campaign, fans likely didn’t expect their team to allow the Dominican Republic international to leave on a free transfer in June.

That’s because, even though clubs in England can’t approach the 28-year-old just yet, clubs from other countries can.

The left-back has been ruled out of the Whites’ last few games due to injury but prior to his absence, he was one of the West Yorkshire outfit’s most impressive players.

Firpo’s last stint in the Premier League didn’t quite go to plan with the left-back often the cause of some of the goals that the West Yorkshire outfit conceded, this in turn meant that a new left-back has always been on the cards.

But, the thought of the former Barcelona man exiting without a fee being paid is surely a cause for concern, especially with less than two weeks left in the winter window.

Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, everything seems to be up in the air.
