Real Betis eye move for Leeds United defender Diego Llorente

Real Betis are “working” on a transfer for Leeds United defender Diego Llorente this summer, according to MARCA.

The Spanish outlet reported on their website (25 June) that the defender is being “monitored” by Real Betis’ sporting director Manu Fajardo.

The La Liga side are waiting to see what happens in Llorente’s future and whether or not they’ll find themselves in a position to “fight” for his transfer in the summer transfer window.

Why Diego Llorente should be allowed to leave Leeds United this summer

Although Leeds themselves are in need of defensive reinforcement, the full departure of Llorente wouldn’t be met with much displeasure from anyone in West Yorkshire.

The Spain international has spent the last 18 months on loan in Italy with Roma, however, their interest in signing the former Real Madrid prospect on a full deal has since diminished [The Mirror, 19 June, page 47].

The departure of Llorente might help the West Yorkshire club in their funding for a potential deal to bring Joe Rodon back to Elland Road this summer, albeit the Welshman has no shortage of suitors for his signature.

The Whites could also be looking at making some sales this summer due to their failure to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

The sale of Marc Roca to Real Betis could also be beneficial to the club [Betis BeSoccer, 25 June] and he would be another who few at Leeds would shed any tears for should he seal a permanent exit away from Elland Road.

In other Leeds news, Liverpool have decided whether to pursue a deal for Crysencio Summerville this summer.
