Liverpool have decided to no longer pursue the transfer of Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville this season, according to Graeme Bailey.

The Reds had been linked with a move for the in-demand Dutch forward (Fabrizio Romano, 9 June), who was last season's Championship Player of the Year, with Brighton and Chelsea having also been reported with an interest.

However, Bailey says Liverpool are no longer in the running, while adding that Leeds are more likely to get around £30million for Summerville rather than the £40m some have suggested.

In quotes reported by Leeds United Live (22 June), he said: "I think Leeds will be getting closer to £30m than £40m, that’s for sure. Leeds won’t be getting £40m at all for Summerville, I don’t see that. Brighton are in for him, they lost Ansu Fati, that didn’t work out and so we know they want a wide player.

“Where the other interest is coming from, Liverpool have ruled themselves out and are not in for him. Brighton firmly in pole position for him."

Why Leeds United should try and get as much money as possible from the Crysencio Summerville transfer

For most Leeds fans, it likely feels almost guaranteed that they will be losing their star man this summer.

The Whites' failure to get promoted back to the Premier League means there might have to be at least one high-profile departure to comply with Profit and Sustainability rules.

A plethora of players such as Illan Meslier [The Athletic, 14 June] and Willy Gnonto have each been touted with moves away [Ben Jacobs, 18 June] from Elland Road this summer.

However, if they can manage to scrape a bigger fee out of the sale of Summerville, they may be able to keep more of their first-team stars.

Indeed, they will hope a lot of the returning loanees will also be shipped out on permanent deals this summer, which will no doubt help the West Yorkshire club in the future.

Losing a player of Summerville's importance would obviously not be ideal but it might just solve a few headaches.
