Rangers winger Ryan Kent has £20m release clause amid Leeds United links

Rangers winger Ryan Kent has an eight-digit buyout clause amid interest from Leeds United, according to The Athletic.

The online news outlet claims the 24-year-old, who Leeds bid £12million-plus for in the past, has a release clause of £20million.

Leeds’ admiration of the Liverpool academy graduate is said to be “no secret”, with The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell writing that “he is someone Marcelo Bielsa personally admires and, once the Argentinian takes a liking to certain players, he is said to become fixated on them”.

Too steep?

Given the club have reportedly spent the last few weeks haggling over a £10million price for Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien, perhaps it’s slightly far-fetched to expect the Whites to splash out £20million on Kent.

After last summer’s spending splurge following promotion to the Premier League, Leeds look to be taking a more measured and frugal approach to this summer’s transfer market.

However, some bad pre-season results and Saturday’s opening day horror show at Old Trafford have led to renewed calls from supporters for the club to invest in reinforcements.

A midfielder looks likely to come through the door with the aforementioned O’Brien the most obvious candidate there, but there is less certainty over whether a winger will be brought in.

Raphinha and Jack Harrison look certain of their spots this season, but Helder Costa’s introduction last weekend laid bare the lack of quality backup in that area.

The Angolan has failed to live up to expectations in West Yorkshire and some fans have called for him to leave, while Ian Poveda looks to be way down the pecking order.

Crysencio Summerville is an exciting prospect, but whether Bielsa is ready to hand him regular opportunities remains to be seen.

There are other attacking options that we would probably prefer to Kent this summer, notably Noa Lang and Matheus Cunha, but £20million could prove a snip for a young English player with European experience.

In other Leeds United news, an English club have tabled a bid to sign this Whites U23s star, permanent exit could be sanctioned.
