Chelsea are hoping to offload Michy Batshuayi this summer and have been boosted by Leeds United registering their interest in the 26-year-old, according to the London Evening Standard.
The newspaper claims that Chelsea have already spent £80million this summer and want to raise funds so they can complete deals for Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell.
Sky Sports has reported that Bayer Leverkusen want £90million for Havertz.
Batshuayi is said to be earning north of £100,000-a-week on his contract at Stamford Bridge and with that deal only having one year left to run on it, Chelsea are willing to sell the Belgium international amid interest from Leeds.
The former Marseille striker, who played for Marcelo Bielsa before joining Chelsea in 2016, is way down the pecking order at Chelsea so if he is offered the chance to join another Premier League club and be a starting striker, he could consider a deal at Elland Road.
However, Belgian newspaper HLN has reported that Batshuayi can be “picky” about who he joins and loves living in London. The Evening Standard add that Crystal Palace are keen on taking their former loan star back to the south of the capital.
It will be an interesting battle between Leeds and Palace if they emerge as front-runners for Batshuayi’s signature.
The Belgian forward knows Bielsa and has worked with him in the past.
But, at the same time, he knows he can perform well at Crystal Palace, would not have to move very far and the Eagles are an established Premier League team compared to Leeds being top-flight newcomers.
It’s a tough one but we trust that Bielsa and Victor Orta will bring in the right players this summer if they can.
But, at the moment, that is looking like a big ‘if’.
In other Leeds United news, this midfielder has spoken out about speculation linking him with the Whites.
