Euro player makes admission when asked about £5m Leeds transfer speculation

Molde midfielder Fredrik Aursnes has admitted that he knows nothing about any interest from Leeds United amid speculation linking him with Elland Road.

The Sun has recently reported that Leeds want to sign the 24-year-old Norwegian in a bid to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.

It was reported that he would cost the Whites £5million but Aursnes knows nothing of Leeds’ supposed interest.

“I’ve got it from the media, but I don’t know anything, to be honest. I haven’t heard anything about this, really, so there’s not much more to say,” Aursnes said, as quoted by LeedsLive in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [11am].

Just because Aursnes doesn’t know of Leeds’ interest, does not mean they are not interested in signing the player.

It is likely that the Whites have Aursnes on their shortlist of potential signings this summer and simply haven’t made the player or Molde aware of their interest just yet.

However, we understand that fans are going to be sceptical as they probably were already as the story came from The Sun.

Aursnes does seem like the kind of player who would appear on Victor Orta’s radar.

He’s an unknown quantity from Europe and his £5million price-tag means that he is affordable for newly-promoted Leeds.

However, Aursnes is primarily a holding midfielder and we believe that Pascal Struijk’s impressive displays in that position at the end of last season mean that Leeds do not need another addition in that area.

Kalvin Phillips is clearly the first-choice defensive midfielder while Adam Forshaw is getting back to fitness and if Ben White returns, he can play there too as well as Struijk.

Aursnes might be a good player but we cannot see the club spending £5million on someone to fill a back-up role.

In other Leeds United news, the club is considering a new record transfer for this striker.
