Phil Hay shares report on potential Leeds United move for Rangers winger Ryan Kent
Leeds United are likely to be monitoring events at Rangers after they were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday night, according to The Athletic.
Phil Hay shared, via his personal Twitter profile, a report from journalist Jordan Campbell that suggests Leeds could be keeping an eye on Ibrox developments with their longstanding interest in 24-year-old winger Ryan Kent.
Hay said: “It’s no secret at all that Leeds and Bielsa have liked Ryan Kent for a long time.
“Rangers are out of the Champions League – Jordan Campbell reflects here on the likelihood that departures from Ibrox are coming.”
In his article on The Athletic, Campbell wrote: “Leeds United have watched Kent for two years — they will have taken a keen interest in events at Ibrox.”
Our pursuit of Kent has proved unsuccessful in the past, but perhaps last night’s events will make the ex-Liverpool attacker turn the screw in an attempt to leave Ibrox.
There has been no suggestion so far that he is desperate to leave the Scottish giants, but defeat to Malmo at Ibrox will have given Rangers players plenty to ponder with just weeks remaining of the transfer window.
He could still get the chance to play European football with Rangers this season as they drop down to the Europa League, but the lure of moving back to the Premier League and testing himself against the elite could be difficult to ignore.
The Whites need to sign a winger with Helder Costa and Ian Poveda unlikely to provide Raphinha and Jack Harrison with strong competition, and while Kent is not a star-studded name that will ring bells among supporters, he is a pacy and direct forward that could reach new levels under Bielsa.
If El Loco wants him, let’s get him.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this Portuguese attacking sensation.
