Phil Hay: Leeds would expect £50m+ to sell Illan Meslier
Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier could already be worth up to £50million, according to Phil Hay.
The Frenchman signed a new long-term contract at Elland Road over the summer and protected his worth with the club.
Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are just two of the names that have been linked with a move, and the Whites could be set for some serious profit on the £5million investment.
Responding to a fan in the comment sections on The Athletic, Hay shared what the Whites should be expecting in the future.
“I feel at this stage you’d be talking £50m plus,” he wrote.
“Which is to say that if you weren’t being offered that much it wouldn’t be worth taking because he has the capacity to move to that valuation and beyond.”
Keep your money.
Looking at the £50million suggested fee, many would get excited at the enormous profit Leeds could make with one sale.
Having said that, Marcelo Bielsa has the perfect young keeper who has more than 10 years left in his career.
Do Leeds need to sell? No, so why should they let one of their youngest stars leave Elland Road when he has guaranteed football ahead of him for so many years to come.
Meslier has also made it very clear that he doesn’t want to move either, with the Whites handing him the chance to break free at Lorient and then make his name on the biggest stage.
£50million or not, we don’t expect the Whites to be inviting any interest or bids for their best young players.
