Phil Hay: Leeds should wrap up January arrival No 1 tomorrow after medical passed

Leeds United should wrap up their first signing of the January transfer window tomorrow (Monday) with goalkeeper Elia Caprile arriving from Chievo, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported online that Caprile, 18, has now passed a medical ahead of completing his move to Elland Road and is then set to be followed by winger Ian Poveda.

It is understood that Poveda, 19, is due to join the Whites on a permanent basis from Manchester City, meaning that Leeds should seal two new additions to their squad over the coming days.

Caprile seems to be a goalkeeper who will be signed for Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s.

The Italy Under-18 international is yet to make a senior appearance in his career but the fact that he is only 18-years-of-age and is being viewed as good enough for the Under-23s is promising.

Will Huffer, 21, and Kamil Miazek, 23, are the main two goalkeepers in the Leeds Under-23s side at the moment so Caprile’s arrival is going to lower the average age of Corberan’s shot-stoppers.

The Italian could also be viewed as a replacement for Huffer or Miazek, both of whom seem to be far away from staking a claim to play in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team.

In other Leeds United news, this 26-year-old is set to leave Elland Road on a free.
