Kiko Casilla hidden from Leeds United fans in pre-season footage as Phil Hay drops exit verdict
Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is likely being kept out of the limelight by the club’s online channels, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Casilla, 35, was due to return to pre-season training at Leeds at the end of June but he’s been nowhere to be seen in video footage and images posted on the Yorkshire club’s social media pages and official website.
Hay admits he’s unaware of what Casilla’s current situation is but the Spanish shot-stopper was due to return to Thorp Arch in June after a spell on loan at Elche.
Hay does, however, say that he expects Casilla to be released once a settlement is reached with him.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show podcast on 8 July (25m20s), Hay said: “He was due to be back two weeks ago, which I think was 27 June and to be quite honest, I don’t know if he’s been there. I’m not sure.
“He may well have been but I’d be really surprised if he’s involved in any way next season.

“They’re definitely not [going to be showing him in official club media].
“He’s got a year to go, they may come up with a settlement to find a move elsewhere.
“I just don’t see how Casilla comes back into the picture.”
Get rid of him
If Leeds have no intention of using Casilla next season and are likely to try and cancel his contract, why waste any time on him now?
There’s a chance that Casilla is simply using Leeds’ training facilities by himself to keep himself in shape and then he’ll be released and allowed to find a new club.
He should have been sacked a long while ago, in all honesty.
He was banned for racially abusing Jonathan Leko in the Championship and surely doing something like that is enough to warrant a contract being torn up without any sort of financial settlement needed.
Marcelo Bielsa, though, decided to keep Casilla in his first-team plans and even handed him the captain’s armband in one of his appearances.
Bielsa’s handling of the Casilla situation was easily the worst part of the Argentine’s reign at Elland Road.
Casilla has been a liability ever since that play-off semi-final defeat to Derby.
Not only is he a terrible goalkeeper but he’s also a terrible human being who’s shown no sort of remorse about his ban for racism. He’s also a waste of resources, earning £40,000-a-week [Football Insider].
Get rid of him. Now.
