Phil Hay details where Leeds stand on Rodrigo De Paul after major development

Rodrigo De Paul told Leeds United fans that he was interested in heading to Elland Road on Monday in a now-deleted tweet.

The 26-year-old Udinese midfielder, who has been strongly linked with a move to Elland Road, replied by saying “yes” to The Square Ball’s Twitter account when they mentioned that he is interested in joining up with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

Not only did De Paul delete that tweet fairly quickly, but he has also deleted his entire account.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has now taken to Twitter to tell Leeds fans just where the Yorkshire club stands on all of this and how De Paul’s activity affects his chances of moving to Elland Road.

In a nutshell, it’s made no difference at all.

According to Hay, the situation regarding De Paul is “unchanged” with no fee agreed and no real developments in recent weeks.

The ex-Yorkshire Evening Post journalist added that Leeds already know he’s keen on signing for them so his mini-outburst on Twitter won’t have had any impact on them.

It’s not every day when you see a player openly respond to transfer speculation on Twitter – especially when they respond affirmatively.

Usually, you just saw players rubbishing rumours about themselves on social media but in this case, De Paul has actually confirmed that he wants to join Leeds.

It’s quite the development and shows that Leeds’ interest in the Argentinean midfielder is about to become one of the most talked-about transfer sagas of the window.

We really hope De Paul joins us and it is great to know that he is already sold on the idea of playing Bielsaball in the Premier League.

It wouldn’t shock us if the performance against Liverpool on Saturday helped sway De Paul.

Not many players in the world would have watched Leeds’ display and thought: ‘I don’t want to play that style of football.’

In other Leeds United news, Paul Robinson has claimed this player could sign permanently before the end of the season.
