We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has claimed that winger Jack Harrison is likely to join Leeds United permanently before the season ends.
Harrison, 23, joined from Manchester City on loan for the third season in a row earlier in the transfer window with the view to him signing permanently for around £10million next summer [Phil Hay].
The former New York City attacker had a slow start to life at Elland Road in his debut season but was key to the club’s title-winning campaign last term.
He’s now started this season with a bang by scoring a stunner on his Premier League debut against Liverpool in Leeds’ 4-3 defeat at Anfield on Saturday.
Former Whites goalkeeper Robinson was blown away by Harrison’s performance and his goal at the weekend and can see Leeds securing a permanent deal for him before next summer’s transfer window opens.
“He was magnificent, his first-touch was incredible,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News when discussing Harrison’s display.
“Kalvin Phillips’ ball to him was sensational but to take it the way he did, he finished it like a seasoned Premier League player.
“He’s matured into a top-class player. He’s going to be a great signing for us with the way he’s settling in. He seems happy and you play your best football when you’re happy.
“When you’ve been loaned out to different clubs, you don’t have a home. It’s difficult for a young lad but he’s come to Leeds on loan and it looks like the transfer’s going to be made permanent by the end of the season.”
Harrison was a definite contender for Leeds’ player of the year last season as they won the Championship title.
He scored six goals and assisted eight in 46 league appearances for the Whites and has shown no signs that he cannot make the step up to the Premier League when he played at Liverpool.
We’re excited by a lot of Leeds’ players but Harrison, who is still a loanee, is someone who everyone will be watching very closely this season.
It wouldn’t shock us if Man City keep close tabs on how he performs in the top-flight too.
If he does well enough, they may block that £10million permanent move.
