Parrott ready to commit as AZ gem shares honest response to Leeds transfer talk

Daniel Farke is targeting a new striker at Leeds United this summer as he prepares for the Premier League.

The Peacocks are set to overhaul their attacking options this summer after their Championship title victory.

Patrick Bamford has been linked away from Leeds, while numerous names are being considered to replace the 31-year-old at Elland Road.

Everton’s Beto have been the strongest name linked to Leeds after a positive Premier League campaign. On top of this, Farke is also reportedly keen on Troy Parrott.

Parrott ‘wants to stay’ at AZ amid Leeds United rumours

Parrott has been heavily linked to Leeds over the past few weeks.

The Irishman is coming off the back of a great campaign after he netted 20 times in all competitions.

Reports had suggested that Leeds were ready to spend over £20million to bring Parrott to Elland Road. However, their pursuit of the 23-year-old may now be in vain.

When discussing his future at AZ, Parrott confirmed that he “wants to stay” at the Dutch club despite the links away, meaning he could be about to commit his future to them.

The striker told ESPN (26 May): “Whatever happens, it’s not going to be my decision… If someone asked me now, I would say I want to stay.

“I’ve had the best year of my life in football so far. I’ve loved every second of it.” Parrott later added: “I am focused. In my mind I will be here next season. I am ready to go again.”

If Parrott is unsure of joining Leeds this summer, then the 49ers should simply move on as quickly as possible.

The Peacocks need to get their deals done early if they are to integrate their signings into the squad before the campaign starts.

Therefore, they cannot waste their time pursuing a striker who is happy to stay in the Dutch league.

Parrott unlikely to have the ability to play in the Premier League

Parrott has been consistently poor in the lower divisions in England when he was sent on loan from Tottenham.

The striker had spells at Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons and Preston, where he scored a combined 16 goals, with the most recent one coming in the 2022/23 campaign.

Therefore, one good season in the Eredivisie does not prove that he will be able to make the step up to the Premier League.

Leeds simply cannot waste their time and must instead pursue other targets this window.
