Paris Saint-Germain in hunt to sign Leeds United attacker Raphinha
By Olly Allen
Paris Saint-Germain are considering a move for Leeds United forward Raphinha, according to TeamTalk.
The report claims that the Ligue 1 side have been recommended the 24-year-old after he impressed Neymar on Brazil duty earlier this month with the PSG star telling his club’s hierarchy about the Leeds man.
Raphinha made his national team debut in October’s international break, featuring in all three of Brazil’s World Cup qualifying games.
He earned a first start in the final match against Uruguay and scored twice in a 4-1 win over Luis Suarez and co.
PSG’s interest will come as a blow to Liverpool, as they have previously been linked with the winger, who has scored three goals in eight Premier League appearances this season.
A Brazilian connection
PSG will be in the market for reinforcements to their forward line next summer, with Kylian Mbappe’s departure inevitable and Angel Di Maria out of contract.
It is unsurprising that Raphinha is on their radar, as the club’s sporting director Leonardo is Brazilian, as well as Neymar and captain Marquinhos.
Interest in Raphinha has soared since his Brazil debut and he is going from strength to strength in a Leeds shirt too, standing as one of the few shining lights in a poor start to the campaign for the Whites.
Marcelo Bielsa will be reluctant to lose the 24-year-old, but PSG are not likely to come calling until the end of the season, by which point his value could be even higher.
Kevin Phillips suggested to Football Insider that Raphinha is worth “£40million plus”, but some supporters are likely to expect more than that considering his growing reputation.
Ultimately, it could depend on where Leeds finish come May that decides what sort of deal they are able to get for a player who seems destined to play among Europe’s elite.
