Paraag Marathe is tasked with re-establishing Leeds United in the Premier League.

To do so, the Whites' hierarchy must show incredible ambition in the transfer window.

Daniel Farke wants to see more quality players arrive in LS11 in the coming weeks, but so far, Harry Wilson has been the only signing.

Julian Brandt has been linked with a move to Elland Road and Marathe's previous admission over the recruitment strategy should encourage fans.

With 49ers Enterprises running the show in recent years, there has been gradual progress at the West Yorkshire outfit, but the Premier League demands different standards.

The Peacocks can arguably no longer get by with making minimal investment in their squad, and players capable of taking the team forward in the coming years will be those with big names and price tags.

Why Paraag Marathe may be pushing for Julian Brandt

At the end of the 2025-26 campaign, Marathe admitted that Leeds could make some audacious attempt to improve the quality within their squad.

Brandt is one such target at Elland Road, with the Germany international available on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the most creative midfielders in the Bundesliga over the last several years and would certainly be an inspiring addition to Farke's squad.

With Wilson, the West Yorkshire outfit have clearly shown they can compete with other teams to secure their priority targets, and Brandt may be the next one coming through the doors as the latest transfer coup.

Speaking to the media at the start of June, Marathe said, "We've got some really talented players... so the bar to get into the squad and get minutes is pretty high. So just by that... maybe there’s going to be a few moonshots here and there to get some really high creative differential players."

Another Leeds United transfer pursuit that could break records

Leeds have identified Sporting CP's Ousmane Diomande as their ideal target in defence.

The Cote d'Ivoire international has a £68.9million release clause in his contract, and if the Whites were to trigger it, it would shatter the transfer record in LS11.

If the West Yorkshire outfit end up paying a significant sum to sign the 22-year-old centre-back, it would surely send a signal and statement of intent to their Premier League rivals.

An ambitious transfer window would not only push the Peacocks further up the table next season but also change the perspective around them.
